Privacy Policy

LegisPlain is operated by getmAIde LLC, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) based in Virginia. Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@getmaide.com.

Email address — collected only if you voluntarily subscribe to bill alerts, request a monthly decode-count reset reminder, or follow a specific bill. We use email to send the thing you asked for. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.

Payment data — if you subscribe to the Researcher tier or purchase a Sponsor decode pack, your payment is processed by Stripe. LegisPlain receives only your email address from Stripe to activate your account. We do not store card numbers, CVVs, or bank account data.

Decode usage — to enforce the free tier limit (3 decodes per month), we track decode counts tied to your email cookie if you are logged in, or to your IP address if you are not. IP addresses used for rate limiting are not stored permanently and are not associated with your search history.

Bill searches— the bill identifiers and region you search are sent to our server to look up or generate a decode. Searches are not stored in a way that links them to you personally. Decoded bill content is cached permanently so each bill's decode stays available at its page — this cache is keyed to the bill ID, not to users.

• Your name, address, or government ID
• Your political affiliation, party registration, or voting history
• Browsing history outside of legisplain.org
• Location data beyond what is implicit in your IP address (used only for rate limiting)
• Any data from minors — LegisPlain is intended for users 13 and older

Stripe — payment processing. Governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Resend — transactional email delivery. We send your email address to Resend solely to deliver the email you requested. Governed by Resend's Privacy Policy.

Vercel Analytics — anonymous, cookie-free pageview analytics. No personal data is collected. Governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Sentry — error and performance monitoring. Session replay is enabled with all text and form input masked — no content you type is recorded. Governed by Sentry's Privacy Policy.

LegisPlain sets one first-party cookie (lp_email) to remember your subscriber or paid-tier status across sessions. This cookie is set only if you subscribe or pay. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

Email addresses for bill-follow subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. Paid-tier records are retained for as long as your subscription is active and for a reasonable period after to support billing inquiries. Decoded bill cache entries are retained permanently (they contain decoded public legislation, not personal data). Rate-limiting records expire within 30 days.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you by emailing privacy@getmaide.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you have subscribed to email alerts, every email contains an unsubscribe link. You may also unsubscribe by emailing us directly.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. We do not use your data for advertising, political targeting, or profiling.

LegisPlain is served over HTTPS. Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel. We use industry-standard practices for secret management and access control. No system is perfectly secure — if you believe you have found a security vulnerability, please report it to security@getmaide.com.

LegisPlain is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be noted by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of LegisPlain after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
